Shrink image file size for upload limits

Typical size problems

Job sites, school portals, government forms, and email often cap file size or pixel dimensions. Original phone photos can be many megabytes while the limit is 500 KB or 1 MB.

Blindly lowering quality can blur faces or text. Adjust max edge length and quality in small steps and compare before/after size — that is the most reliable approach.

Choosing a format

General photos & ID shots: JPG is usually fine — good quality per byte.

Screenshots, charts, and text-heavy images: PNG keeps edges sharp but can be larger; use when you need clarity.

Web uploads: WebP can be smaller at the same visual quality, but some older apps will not open it.

Limits and device performance

Batch processing has per-file and total size caps. Files outside the range are skipped — check individual sizes first.

Large photos on a phone browser can take longer. Test on Wi‑Fi before a deadline if the submission matters.
