What is in EXIF and GPS?
Image files can record capture time, GPS coordinates, camera model, and exposure settings. You cannot see them in the picture, but analysis tools can read them.
Photos taken at home, of children, or while traveling can expose location. Check metadata handling before uploading originals.
How removal differs
Some apps offer a “strip metadata” toggle. Browser tools that redraw pixels to a new canvas often do not copy EXIF, GPS, or XMP into the output.
Screenshots also drop metadata but can reduce quality. For important photos, intentional re-encoding usually preserves intended format and size better.
